Danladi Ndayebo: Sunset at dawn

Danladi Ndayebo: Sunset at dawn

From Israel Ayegba Ebije,

Life is like money, some people will never know what it means to spend it. For the likes of Danladi Ndayebo, the former commissioner of Information during the administration of governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger state, he spent every single currency of life during his short stay on earth imparting positively to serve God and humanity. Valhalla gates however opened too soon for this great media warrior.

Danladi Ndayebo has indeed  transited beyond our wretched physical human form. The amiable media general took an early bow at a time his fountain of knowledge is required. The traditional media space has indeed lost one of its best to the cold hands of death.

In the mix of all the pain his sudden passing has caused, I am sure heaven has gained a gem while we mourn his exit. It is indeed a fact that the dead have the greatest number of the best of humanity. The world can only try to repopulate and replicate but the Ndayebo’s of today are more on the other side. I have no doubt he is surely with his peers, the best of them all, the shakers and movers of their time. They are up in the sky smiling down at the rest of us who are fixated with the unending chore of finding a path to the evolving world of constant change. They are happy to receive him, he has gone to rest!

I will always remember Ndayebo as a prolific writer, orator and distinguished gentleman. I worked with him while I as a reporter with Daily Trust newspaper. We also worked together as a team in the media unit at government house Niger state. We had an excellent working relationship. He was affable, intelligent and one of the best journalists I have ever worked with. Very creative and always pushing against the tide to give the global best media perspective. His meteoric rise from mainstream journalism, special assistant, press secretary to commissioner of information was indeed based on hardwork, commitment and professional passion.

His record as one of the top shots in Leadership newspaper prior to his series of political appointments stood him in a galaxy exclusively reserved for the best in their chosen career. He was quick at critical thinking, smart in connecting the dots and articulate in presentation of ideas designed at result seeking. I am indeed glad I shared the same space with a media colossus like Ndayebo and at the same time saddened by his early exit from this world.

I recall that receiving the mantle of leadership from Danladi in the year 2014 as Chief Secretary to Dr Aliyu, was indeed the height of my professional litmus test. I knew I had to race quickly to spread myself across the space he once occupied. I had no time to celebrate my appointment because I had to contend with bringing myself to the realm Ndayebo once occupied and to also hit the ground running to manage a powerful personality like Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu.  You must be good in writing speeches, excellent in writing press statements within the shortest period of time possible and be information seeking to know the next moves from opposition forces in their unending media attacks.

I am sure Ndayebo transitioned to the other side with the gallantry of a warrior, preparing himself for the Valhalla that awaits him without fear. He was a man of strong conviction, insurmountable energy, unrivaled resilience who appreciates life at the value of human contribution which he knows can end at any time.

Professionalism was the gift Ndayebo gave to the practice of journalism. He was so good that he could not be ignored after his series of unbroken chain of appointments. His last call to duty was as executive secretary Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. He would be remembered for his contribution to the art and science of journalism. People like him explored deeper into the principle and practice of journalism so that the world could be a better place through vibrant reporting, and best global practice  public relations spin approach.

Ebije was Chief Press Secretary to Dr Babangida Aliyu, former Governor of Nigerians state
